An International Festival is a Girl Scout tradition. It commemorates Thinking Day, the birth date of Lord and Lady Baden Powell, and our connection to Girl Guides all over the world. Usually, in an International Festival, a troop chooses a country in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and hosts a station that shares the things that they have learned about that country and Scouting there. | |
This year(2013) we plan to have an area-wide International Festival to celebrateThinking Day. There is a girl/adult committee planning the event andwe want to encourage all troops in Rockdale & Newton counties toparticipate. We feel troops are most likely to want to participate if theyare hosting a country they have interest in or a connection to, and since whenpreparing for an International Festival troops should have lots of time to workon their plans we will starttaking country requests on Oct 31st, Juliette Low's birthday.
Troopsthat would like to host a country should email their top 3 choices to Terrywith a reason why their girls would like to represent those countries.Countries will be assigned on a first come basis (so send your requests as soonas possible) and you should get a reply to your email confirming your countrywithin 2 business days.
Troopsthat are hosting should prepare a table with decorations and information inposters or displays. Theyshould have an activity, game, song or simple craft to share with girls whovisit their country. Other details will be determinedand sent after the girl committee meets.
